Sony to Halt New Clie Pocket Computer Sales in U.S.

New Nokia cellcams
The Nokia 7610 camera phone has started shipping. For more details, refer to the Forum Nokia 7610 device page. There are a number of features I would still like to see added to some upcoming smartphone cellcam device, but all in all the 7610 seems to me to be the best cellcam available today (yes, I am biased, but I believed the 7610 would be a very hot device even before I accepted my position at Nokia).
Nokia has also announced the 3220, meant to shore up lower cost cellcam offerings. It contains a number of interesting features, including “light messaging” (read all about it from the official press release and Forum Nokia).
Nokia overtakes PalmOne
Reuters/CNN reports that according to a Q1 2004 survey, Nokia has overtaken PalmOne as the world’s top seller of “mobile computers”. In other words, smartphones are outselling PDAs and Nokia’s Series 60 smartphone platform is proving to be the most popular choice with consumers.
Interesting stats from the article:
- The total mobile computer market grew by 41% to 5.93 million units
- Nokia sold 1.67 million smartphones, up from 900,000 a year earlier
- Nokia increased its market share to 28.2%, up from 21.5% in Q1 2003
- PalmOne’s share dropped to 16.8% from 26%
- Hewlett-Packard (3rd worldwide based upon iPaq) saw its market share slip to 9.7% from 10.6%
Count one significant battle victory for Series 60 in the still raging smartphone wars.
